There will be a change to this Wednesday's Guest Speaker.  This week's Guest Speaker will be Darren Alexander speaking about 5 Days of Innovation.

Following the success of the inaugural 5 Days of Innovation in 2010, the festival is back this month bigger and better.

Celebrating innovation in all its forms across Northern Tasmania, events will showcase innovative practices in business, art, food, technology and primary industry.

The festival’s aim is to promote innovation and to encourage the spread and adoption of innovative ideas within the Tasmanian business community.  The festival focuses on the way innovation can act as a stimulus in times of economic uncertainty by unlocking new income sources and making business practices more efficient.

We have had 3 of our students graduate this year, including one the club sponsors, Berniza Plaza. A copy of a thank you letter just received from Berniza is attached.

I am now looking for new sponsors for this year so that we can award some new scholarships. The club will award one to replace Berniza and it would be great if we could get one or two new private sponsors as well to replace the other graduates.
Sponsoring a child is very rewarding and life changing for the child as can be seen by the attached letter. A scholarship costs $125 per year and covers such things as school fees, books, school stationery, uniform and travel. It allows poor families to be able to send their child to high school. The commitment is for 4 years.

If you are interested, or know someone who is, let me know as soon as you can so that I can let the Principal of Basa School know how many new scholars we will be able to award this year.

Yes, it is on again, the great Conference Bike-Ride takes place on Friday May 25 starting at Cornelian Bay, Hobart. This Ride has become a tradition in association with our District Conference to aid the work on mental health research by Australian Rotary Health.

For those who have not participated in the past - riders seek sponsorships from friends which are paid for you covering the 30 kilometres or so of the ride in company with other Rotarians and their friends. It is a great way to build more friendships at the same time as supporting a worthy Rotary cause. A notice of the ride and sponsorship form is attached.

Riders will meet with our Organiser, Rotarian Martin Schroter of the RC of Sorell, at Cornelian Bay at 12 noon for a 12.30pm start on Friday 25 May and travel over two bridges and parts of both the Eastern and Western shores of the Derwent River.
It is a fun time and, while we also want you to come to the Conference, you can join in this event by itself. Please indicate your participation to schroter@netspace.net.au .

Some riders participate each year and once they raise $2000 in donations, qualify for the special YELLOW JERSEY. If you hunger for a Yellow Jersey complete the attached form and return to
