The Launceston City Council and the Rotary Club of Tamar Sunrise will spearhead  a gala fundraising event in Launceston in coming weeks to support Tasmanian communities impacted by bushfires.

Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten has expressed his sympathies to all those affected by the fires.
"These fires will be an enormous blow to the  communities concerned and I would like to express my support to the municipalities affected.  They will have an enormous job to do in coming weeks  and months and we will be ready to offer help should it be required.”
Launceston will host a special gala fundraising event on Thursday 24 January with all proceeds going to Rotary Tasmania, to distribute to those  affected by the recent fires.

From Monday morning, Launceston City Council Customer Service Centre will be accepting donations of items that can be  used for raffles, fundraising and auction items.

No one will be paid  from the event and all proceeds will be managed through Rotary Tasmania.

Tickets to the event will go on sale from the Princess Theatre on Tuesday 8 January 2013
