A great vocational this week at Net 19. Thanks to cider-makers Chris and Caro Brown from Brady's Lookout Cider. Club members enjoyed the chance to learn about cider and also about blending. Susan Nolan and her super International Women's Day team also met on Thursday to talk about the upcoming event. Caro Brown headed off to Rotaract to talk about our 5th and 15th Birthday celebrations. This week it is casual breakfast in the cafe side (Titanium Bar) at Hotel Launceston as it is Launceston Cup Day. Bring along your fascinator for something different!
Committee members for International Women's Day will also be having a meeting Thursday morning at LAC. The Committee needs all members to circulate an invite to the event far and wide to make it a success! See Susan or Jane if you need the link. Tickets can be purchased by going to www.tamarsunriseevents.com.au Toni Wagner is also looking for volunteers to fill the Bunnings roster on 22nd March - hope you have some time frame and can help out. EVITA Don't forget we changed our Evita night to Wednesday 11 March (not 13 March as mentioned in the Planner) to work in with the Rotary Foundation fundraiser organised by RC Launceston West. Dinner at 6pm at a venue to be advised. So far we have booked tickets for Alicia, Susan, David, Warwick, Jane, Jann, Caro and Chris. Anybody else, please email president@tamarsunrise.com.au asap. Remember if you have been booked in, then it is your responsibility to pay the club (even if you are unable to go on the night) as the tickets have been locked in. Have a great week. Happy birthday to Jann, Leigh and Meg. Last week at the club we enjoyed the company of Mary from Festivale who provided an overview of what our club was required to support as part of the Information Booth at Festivale.
Congratulations to David and Lou and all the Committee of Festivale. Although the weather was not that grand, the event was as well run and enjoyable as ever. A great contribution to the local social fabric of Launceston and a fantastic attraction to the City. Thank you to all members and friends who volunteered at Festivale over the weekend. This is one of our signature support events and everyone enjoys the experience. Your smiley faces just add to the atmosphere! Thanks Clark for the one minute overview of "O" Week at Uni - wish I was back there. Form filling was also the requirement of the meeting with a "get to know you" form that Leigh was no doubt share with us over the 2015-16 year. This week, we are making a flying visit to NET 19 located at Shop 6, 17-19 Abbott Street East Launceston for a vocational visit with a difference. The vocational activity is located in a Restaurant style setting for a reason. Come along at 7am for a something different! Leaflets and website all live this week. Circulate far and wide and lets see whether we can beat last year's attendance. Funds raised from the event go to Laurel House. Thanks to our wonderful supporters StLukesHealth, Halibut Creative and Hotel Grand Chancellor. Check out our website www.tamarsunriseevents.com this week to register. This week at Tamar Sunrise we have our exchange student Louis Rustenholz from Strasbourg in France presenting to us. This will be the first chance that many of you have a chance to meet and hear about Louis and his life back home. We are looking forward to this.
Marcus and Emma Courtney are Louis' first host family at Tamar Sunrise and we are grateful to them for their support. David will be picking up Louis every week for breakfast - thanks David. Clark is our one minute speaker this week. Danny and Susan are our Rotaract visitors for February. Festivale Roster 13-15 February 2015 Festivale is almost upon us. Toni has been working on our Roster and doing a marvellous job. There are a few places still to fill: 1 person Sunday morning 10am to 12 noon 2 people Sunday afternoon 2pm to 4pm. If you have some time spare, can you let Toni know asap if you can assist. YOUTH PROJECTS As mentioned last year, members of Rotary intending or required to work as volunteers with children need to apply for a new type of registration (incorporating police checks) required by Government - this includes our Youth Exchange program. Working on our Governance areas, we need to consider this registration by the end of April 2015 for our members who will be involved in these programs for next year. A run sheet will be circulated this week and next week to indicate who already has these as part of their work requirements and who else we will need to consider connecting into the registration process. In the meantime, if anybody has any questions, please see Caro as she has the District Committee information on what is required. EVITA At our casual breakfast last week, members expressed an interest in a group booking in attending Evita on Friday 13 March 2015 at 8pm with a dinner before hand. Tickets are $52pp Please indicate to Caro on president@tamarsunrise.com.au if you wish to attend. We can then approach Encore for a group booking arrangement. District Conference Don't forget, you can register for District Conference 20-22 March 2015 by clicking here Last week at Tamar Sunrise, we had a casual breakfast meeting at Titanium. The main topic of the conversation was International Women's Day Breakfast. The event is to be held on Friday 6th March 2015.
A small committee has been established led by Susan Nolan. Other members include Janice, Caro, Jane, Toni, Judy, Leigh and Danny. Venues are currently being sourced. We will have a panel discussion like last year and gift bags and raffle and lucky door prizes. Our wonderful friends StLukesHealth have already supported us with some goodies for the gift bags for the event. We are again grateful to Rodney and StLukesHealth for the support. Laurel House has been the suggested for the organisation for us to support this year. Laurel House is a community based organisation that provides therapeutic services and support for women, men and children who are victim/survivors of sexual assault. Janice has more information on the service for those who would like this. We are to confirm the charity for our Breakfast this week. The next meeting for the Committee is this Thursday morning 7am at Cube Launceston Aquatic. ALL are welcome to attend and lend a hand for the event. POP-UP meeting A BIG THANK YOU also to Leigh Hart who opened up her home on Wednesday evening for our club 'pop up' BBQ. It was a lovely evening and enjoyed by all who attended. It is a busy week coming up for the club. First we have our vocational tour at Penny Royal. We meet in the Gunpower Car Park at 6:55am. Dean Cocker from Chromys will be taking us through this amazing development. Make sure you are not late! There will be no breakfast organised for this Wednesday after the tour. Its Carols by Candlelight time! Yes, it is that time of the year, when all the hard work of our dedicated Launceston Carols by Candlelight Committee come together.
On behalf of the club, I would like to thank all of those on the Committee who have been working hard over the last few months in bringing the event together, particularly Danny, Lou, David, Judy, Susan N, Alicia, Leigh, Melissa and Jane. Thanks also to all of you who will be directly involved in the event on the day and in packdown. Truly...thankyou - you are amazing! Carols is a terrific community event for Launceston and it takes a community of people to make it a success. It is about collaborating, not only with our sponsors and key supporters, but also with other Rotarians. Special thanks must go to our key parners Vos Construction, One Agency and other sponsors W.D. Booth Trust, our wonderful friends StLukes Health, Crowe Howarth, Launceston City Council, Tasmanian Alkaloids and Festivale. Other supporters that we are grateful to are Netspertise, Southern Cross, LAFM, The Examiner, Scott Signs, Marcom Watson, Tas Fire Service, ToxFree and the Rural Youth Organisation of Tasmania. I would like to thank all Rotarians across Northern Tasmania for their support as well as the Girl Guides and St Johns Ambulance. Thank you one and all for your contribution to Carols - this is a wonderful signature event for our club to be involved with and each one of you on the night will be marvellous support. I will be heading away just after Carols, so Chris and I thank you for your friendship over the last year, and I look forward to an even more exciting 2015 with the club. All the best to you and your loved ones over the Festive season. Regards Caro This week we have Zoe Polacik and her companion from the Royal Guide Dogs Tasmania. This will be a terrific opportunity for us to understand what is needed to train and support companion dogs.
Our member's minute this week is from Jane Pybus and although tupperware has been THE THING over recent weeks, we have been advised that the discussion will be on a slightly different topic! Toni also visited Rotaract last week so we look forward to a quick update. Have a great week! WOW, what a busy meeting. First we had our AGM for the club. Leigh Hart was confirmed as President for 2015-16, Secretary Danny Gibson and Toni Wagner as Domestic portfolio. All other positions (Treasurer, International, Club Management) remain vacant. If you would like to take on one of these roles and would like to know more, feel free to speak to the President, President-Elect or the portfolio holders.
After our AGM PDG James Wilcox spoke to us about the Rotary Foundation. An excellent presentation on what opportunities there are to support projects and how the Foundation works. If you like to know more, contact James direct. As you know our District Grant (as part of the Rotary Foundation work) Books for Kinders is underway. We are hoping to present to the school i in the next week or so depending on the book order. James is after lots of photos! Finally, our club meeting followed James and we had two club proposals submitted. One (East Tamar Primary School fair) was endorsed, the other "Contribution to mens shed" needs some additional ideas - so if you have any, send through to Danny. The Club decided that as it is such as busy year we will also not have a seperate Christmas function but focus on our White Envelope pre-Christmas breakfast. We will hold a get together in February instead. |
