What is your vocation and how did you get started in your current role?
I am a newly elected Alderman with the Launceston City Council. Having been Promotions and Marketing Manager with The Examiner Newspaper for three and a half years, I returned from a Rotary Group Study Exchange program and knew that I wanted to work harder for the community. I also run a successful Drama School with over 120 students. What's your idea of a perfect holiday? I have had the good fortune of travelling to many different places but I love history, culture, architecture and the Arts. Europe. Long coat and very chilly. My perfect holiday destination would not have a beach or sand! What are some of your interests (outside of Rotary?!) I love theatre, travelling, food and wine and youth initiatives. I also love spending time with my friends. Who would you like to sit next to on a plane? I would love to sit next to India's Prime Minister. What is your favourite place in Launceston? The Princess Theatre, of course! Do you have any photos of Tamar Sunrise activities and events? If so we would love to see them! This year one of the PR projects is to develop an on-line library of the Club's photos. This will mean that we'll have all our photos in one central place. Please email photos with details to [email protected] - please don't forget to include details about the photos in the email!
What is your vocation and how did you get started in your current role?
I am a Program Support Manager with the Department of Human Services (Centrelink Master Program). Among other things I have responsibility for the 'Service Recovery Unit' for Zone Tasmania. This role involves managing customer complaints, liaising with the office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman and preparing Ministerial responses. I started with the Department of Social Security on a six week contract just after I finished uni. Fifteen years later I'm still there (DSS having become Centrelink and now DHS). I spent 10 years as a Team Leader in our Call Network. I've spent the past five years in a variety of Service Delivery Manager and Program Support Manager roles. What's your idea of a perfect holiday? I'm going to say a cruise - although I've yet to go on one! I also love to travel to interesting places - my favourite so far is Turkey. Which reality tv show would you like to star in? The Amazing Race or My Kitchen Rules. What is one of the things on your bucket list? I'd like to go to Antarctica one day (but nowhere near any Penguins - birds really, really scare me). What are some of your interests (outside of Rotary?!) Shopping Cooking - I've been playing with my little smoker lately Making glass beads with my little blow torch Study - I'm currently completing a Graduate Certificate in Public Sector Management Going out with friends Going to the gym (not often enough) Trying new things - I've just purchased a Ukelele! Who would you like to sit next to on a plane? Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory. Thanks to the members who were able to make it on the day to help out and to everyone else for helping spread the word. The day was very successful, enjoyable and very sunny - perfect weather for a BBQ.
Combining with Launceston Central and the Tamar Valley Rotaract Club provided a really positive image of Rotary and the different projects that are supported by the different Rotary Clubs. It was also a good chance to socialise with the broader Rotary Community. There was lots of foot traffic through the mall so we had los of opportunites to promote Rotary and our club. By 1.30pm Sausages has run out so extra supplies had to be sources (or sauced...) Thank you also to Clare Lutteral, who did a fabulous job with the face painting. At the final count over 50 faces were painted. |
