Books for Kinders - Helping building a love of reading

On Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 October, 3 Club Members (Clare, Judy and Janice) visited Mayfield and Rocherlea Primary to meet the Kindergarten students, share storytime and present each student with their very own book to take home with them.  This year's book was "Family Forest" selected from the Children's Book Council of Australia shortlist for Picture Book of the Year for 2011 (written by Kim Kane).  “Family Forest” is a delightful story about blended families and how some people have a Family Tree while others have a “Family Forest”.

This year a total of 69 books were presented to the kinder students at Mayfield and Rocherlea. Our aim in presenting students with their very own book is to help develop literacy in children and build a life-long love of books.  The Program has been successfully running since 2005.  Projects such as “Books for Kinder” demonstrate that so much can be achieved with not a lot of effort.  A simple idea can improve the lives of others and make a real difference

The club would like to recognise the support received from Petrach's Bookshop for their on-going contribution to the success of the program. We would also especially like to recognise the efforts of the club members whose passion and enthusiasm has seen the program grow and continue to succeed.
