10th July 2019 This week at Tamar Sunrise we welcomed Don Jones, Chair of the Launceston Benevolent Society as our Speaker. Don has been a prominent Launcestonian and served in our community over a career spanning 45 years. The Benevolent Society has been providing a service to Tasmanians for over 180 years having been founded in 1834 and supports those in need with food vouchers, clothing along with budgeting and financial support. Every year, our Club identifies a group that we want to support and this year the Club members wholeheartedly agreed that our Speaker donations would go to the Launceston Benevolent Society. So it was with great pleasure that Tamar Sunrise handed over a cheque for $750.00 to Don. DON’T FORGET YOUR CAN! Our Club is on the lookout for your cans to support the Benevolent Society’s annual Can Drive. Bring them along to our weekly meetings and we will organise to drop them off. 3rd July 2019 Our first Rotary meeting in the New Rotary Year was a small group all the same, we enjoyed a gentle start to the year by engaging in Fellowship and a fun activity. It was wonderful to welcome Barb and Laurie to our meeting for the first time and for them to be able to meet other members along with the opportunity to find out more about what our Club was about. Lego is over 50 years old and there would be very few people who have never played with it at some stage in their life (maybe still are!). By each member adding 1 piece of lego onto the previous structure we arrived at a not too shabby looking helicopter! We wont give us our day jobs! Changeover – 28th June 2019 We had a wonderful Changeover Cocktail evening hosted by Drew Burns at Cinco Passiones to celebrate the 2018/19 year and welcome in the new 19/20 Rotary Year. Along with 15 Club members, their friends and partners we were joined by District Governor (Elect) Michael Plunkett his wife Assistant Governor Gayle Plunkett as well as District Group 5 Assistant Governor David Annear. It was a fantastic opportunity to chat, enjoy some wonderful background music provided by Oscar on the guitar, sample some scrumptious charcuterie as well as learn how to make our own very special “Tamar Sunrise Cocktail”. Our raffle netted $215.00 which is to be donated to the Benevolent Society. Thanks to Encore Theatre, Stage Right Youth Theatre Brady’s Lookout Cider for their wonderful donations to the raffle prizes.
