Dementia and memory loss is one of the biggest health challenges facing society. Each week, more than 1,700 new cases of dementia are recorded in Australia (that is one person every six minutes!). There is so much we do not know about it. This week at Tamar Sunrise it is our "Bring a Friend" day. Our Guest Speaker will be Kim Curley from Alzheimer's Australia (Tas). Kim will be sharing with us information that we should all be aware of.
This is important as Australia faces a shortage of more than 150,000 paid and unpaid carers for people with dementia by 2029. One of the pressing issues is to build capacity in the dementia research sector by supporting students and early career dementia researchers. It is pleasing to note that Australian Rotary Health fund a PHD candidate to look at dementia and Alzheimer's disease. We are really looking forward to hearing Kim's message and welcoming our guests and friends this week. Member's Minute: Kathy Harriss is our 'member's minute this week. Pop-Up Meeting: Our pop up meeting on the Wednesday 29th October 2014 will be at The Gunner's Arms, upstairs. Commencing at 6pm. Make sure you "pop up" for the discussion on our international programs and planning for the future. Members will be able to order meals and dine as part of the evening. There will be NO breakfast meeting that morning. Rotaract: Caro and Janice will be visiting Rotaract this week, as they changed their meeting from last week. Others are welcome to join us!
